So basically Americans who have diligently paid into their retirement account have lost massive wealth, but the good new is they have at least some retirement. USA Today reported that 56 percent of Americans do not systematically prepare for retirement age by investing. These are alarming trends!
HOME FORCLOSURES- almost 1 million
A total of 861,664 families lost their homes to foreclosure last year, according to RealtyTrac’s year-end report. There were more than 3.1 million forclosure filings issued during 2008, a 30 year record high. The worst is yet to come as Moody’s Economy.com, a research firm, predicts the number of homes lost to foreclosure is likely to rise by another 18 percent this year. [fox news]
HOME PRICES SPIRAL DOWNWARD- up to 40%
How does it make you feel to see home prices crash and burn? Depressed, scared, angry? Home prices have fallen over 21% from their peak according to the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price index. In many areas the decline is much worse with home prices falling more than 40%.
